The bus rides are definitely the problem. I hiked 3.5 thousand feet up and the next day had no soreness or discomfort of any kind. I hiked 3.5 thousand feet down and the following day had no problems whatsoever. I sat on a bus for eight hours and the day after that I can’t make it down the hotel stairs without desperately clinging with both hands to the railing.
After our mountainous adventure we headed up the compass and the mountains to the city of Pokhara. This is a famous beginning area for many tourists who come to hike. The city is highly geared toward tourists. There are many and varied restaurants, including multiple German bakeries. Right next door to our hotel is the Silk Road Restaurant. It is the off tourist season here so the restaurant is not fully staffed and consequently a little slower, but the food is excellent. They actually have really good bratwurst although they advertise it as pork sausage.
According to the original schedule we were supposed to go up the mountain one day, have a seminar the second, and come down the third. We decided however that we could easily come down the second day after the seminar. Thus we arrived in Pokhara one day early and were able to relax. We also had time to do some much needed laundry.
Earlier today we had the seminar in the church and had about 50 people attend.
Pastor JB Bhitrakoti needed Raju back in Kathmandu to help out with Saturday worship service and organizing help on the church building. So Rajan and Chandra met us here in Pokhara and Raju left earlier today for Kathmandu. Chandra is the new guy. He is a little shy about talking to us, doesn’t yet appreciate American food, and didn’t know how to play Uno, but he is good natured and we are working on the rest.
Tomorrow we leave Pokhara and head down to Butwal. We have one last worship service with the Nepali on Saturday, then Rajan and Chandra will leave us at the border and Father and I will head into India.
