Here is a map with a brief overview of where we actually hiked.

All the even numbers are places, all the odd numbers are roads or trails.

1 – This is the road leading into Dunche from Kathmandu. The bus ride from Kathmandu to Dunche was about 9 hours. Todd and I awoke at three in the morning. The bus actually left around 7:00am. At first when I sat down on the bus I thought it was too bad, not real comfortable but not too bad. After about four hours I was turning every way I could to let a new part of my rear endure the bumps.

2 – We arrive in Dunche about 4:00pm. Originally the plan was to disembark at Dunche and take the trail marked 7 up to the village. For this reason I was very glad to arrive in Dunche. It was however decided after we got there and got off the bus that it would be better to go around to point 4, that way instead of walking all the way down and all the way back up we could walk along the tops of the mountains. So we quickly jumped back on the bus before it left.

3 – The Road from Dunche to Point 4. I was at this point very very eager to get off the bus, however after about halfway, Rajan and I went to sit on top of the bus where we got a much better view of the surrounding land.

4 – Point 4 where we finally got off the bus. This point was not a village there were three huts there. In one of the huts we ate some soup before setting off. We arrived at this point around 6pm and began our hike around 7pm.

5 – The trail from point 4 to the village of Nesing. Starting at 7pm the light was gone almost before we began walking. We used flashlights to make sure we didn’t misstep. For the villagers this hike is an hour and a half. For us it took four hours. Despite the fact that this was supposed to be the even route we were almost constantly climbing either up or down, though in the end it was probably not as difficult as the way back.

6 – The village of Nesing. The view here was absolutely beyond description. We arrive around 11pm. The others wanted to eat, Todd and I just wanted to go to bed. And so we did, both of us in one bed about the same size as a single bed. It was however much better than I was expecting since it had a mattress and plenty of covers. I was expecting to sleep on the floor or on a wooden plank.

7 – This is the route we took back to Dunche. We could not go back the way we came because we had to get back to Dunche. That is where our bus left from and where there were hotels. We left along this path around 3:30 we didn’t arrive in Dunche till 11:00pm. When we got to Dunche the hotel was all closed up with metal doors pulled down over the windows and doors. We tried knocking we tried calling, no one would answer even though we could hear a TV on on the ground floor. Eventually however the hotel manager must have woken up and came and opened up for us.
